THE BLOC LA
ILLUSTRATIONS
I have been working with The Bloc in DTLA for a few years now, and I always have a lot of fun whenever we work together.
Our latest project was to do a large scale window installation in the theme of the LA Dodgers. Since the Bloc is a big destination for folks visiting for Dodgers games, they thought it would be fun to play with the idea of Dodger Dogs and what that might look like.
Of course we couldn’t use any actual Dodgers logos or stuff like that, so I had to be creative with the concept to still achieve a dodger feel.
We landed on the concept of 4 dogs, dressed in dodgers hats and gear, all keeping their eye on the ball. It felt fun and joyful, and I wanted to give it a sense of childlike wonder.
To unveil the artwork, they had a big adoption event as well. I’m such a dog person, and I love dogs so much. This project came at a difficult time for me, because I had just lost my dog of 14 years recently. I was able to put Freddy in the artwork, and it gave me a lot of joy to see him smiling. (he’s the one on the far left)
Super fun to have a project like this where I get to do a mural like execution, but we do it digitally and print it.
EARTH DAY
RECYCLING BIN WRAPS + Live Painting
Another few projects that I collaborated with The Bloc on, were around Earth Day 2023. They asked for a cool illustration to wrap all of their recycling cans.
I had this very jeweled desert tortoise drawing that needed a good home. After some back and forth with the client we made him a little more LA with some glasses and the skyline in the back. Funky Fresh.
To unveil the artwork on the cans, The Bloc commissioned a special Earth Day Live Painting. I thought It would be fun to bring some awareness to bees. These particular bees are Dodgers fans, and happen to be a little drunk on pollen I guess.
I only had about 2 hours to paint the canvas, so it was a bit of a challenge to finish it so fast, but a super fun experience.
